Seven contestants competed for the top honors held at the Chili Cook-Off at the Lee Regional Fair. Winning first place with her Game Day Chili was Anne Faulk, second place went to Betty Spence with her Betty’s blazing Good Hot Chili and third went to Carson Cline for his Bacon-Cheddar Chili. The Sanford Lions Club sponsored the ribbons and premium money for the chili cook off. Once the decision was made and the ribbons awarded observers of the event were invited to sample the winning recipes which disappeared in no time flat.
Judges for the Chili Cook-off were Shane Seagroves, Lee County Emergency Services Director; Scott Knuth, Batalion Commander, Sanford Fire Department; Randy Seagroves, Assistant Chief, NorthView Fire Department; Joel Johnson, Assistant Chief, Deep River Fire Department; and Bill Rogers, Lee County Fire Marshal. Helping with this event were Beverly Tippett, Cris Elliott and Kay Morton.
